In most cases, inter-city bus operators
are full-time employees of a bus company, and
may be part of a union. You will generally work
on a days-on/days-off schedule, allowing for required
rest between trips. You will work a combination
of days and nights, weekdays and weekends and
will also be expected to work on some statutory
holidays. You will work with shipping and receiving
staff, often lifting luggage and freight as part
of this position. As well, you may be required
to transport dangerous goods.
Benefits generally include medical, drug, and
dental plans for full-time employees; on-the-job
training; and uniform provision. Meals and overnight
accommodations are also covered when you are on
extended trips. Some progressive companies offer
additional benefits, like travel passes for family
members and fitness memberships for their operators.
